Complety free Anti-Virus/Firewall/Anti-Spyware Software for WinXP

Recently I had the misfortune of installing Norton 360.

It was supposed to provide an all in one Antivirus, Antispyware , firewall solution and retails at $80. I installed it on a beast of a machine, plenty of memory, processor power exceeding stated requirements but Norton 360 managed to slow it down to a crawl rendering WinXP virtually unusable for up to 5 minutes after boot up and intermittently thereafter. I think it safe to say that up to that point we had not experienced a virus attack or security breach that caused as much chaos!

And ironically after installing Norton 360 the machine was promptly infected with the Netsky virus.

Thanks a bunch Norton!! What happened to that company?

Anyway bye bye Norton 360.

Why pay money for such shoddy software when you can get the most important elements free?

Try the following:

For your Antivirus software, download and install AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition.

For your firewall software, download and install ZoneAlarm® Free Firewall.

Lastly to handle Spyware download and install the Ad-Aware 2007 Free

I have used these for some time, they work great AND and work with WinXP, not against it. Are you listening Norton?

Interesting. I’ve only just submitted this article I wrote to digg and I’ve received a soam comment from http://www.e-spyware.com/?p=3962

On that website is an excerpt on from the article I wrote and submitted to digg. There is no link indicating that the article originaed here at weeatbricks.com. It mentions ‘original post by admin’ which links to weeatbricks.

I suppose this is a spam blog or splog that automatically scans digg for keywords and adds articles containing keywords to the blog. In this case ’spyware’.

But there is no advertising on the blog? Curious.

You can’t forget about Spybot Search and Destroy and JavaCool Software’s SpywareBlaster. Both of those work great as well.

Also it could be your blog and ping feature?

Now there are some changes. ZoneAlarm only provides basic personal firewall as free version. I think Comodo Firewall Pro (www.personalfirewall.comodo.com) is good solution for firewall. It is free of charge and has more features. And for anti-spyware solution, Spyware Terminator (www.spywareterminator.com) it good choice as free solution.

I feel your pain. Norton caused one of my computers to crash and burn. It took weeks to reformat and install all of my programs. Luckly I had a backup of the data, well most of it anyway.
